The Osa Peninsula is recognized as a biological hotspot. It has a flourishing habitat, and contains some of the last primary jungle left in Central America.Â
Drake Bay is a fantastic place to stay during your time on the peninsula. There are many tours and activities we can offer to our guests. Below you will find some options for excursions and Drake Bay tours.
Corcovado National Park
Sirena Station
Sirena Station is the one of the main activities in the area. Sirena offers its visitors an authentic experience, focusing on the biodiversity that can be found in the area. The tour typically leaves very early in the morning, a time when the wildlife is active.Â
The lodge offers additional information and details in order to assist you with the tour preparations, such as appropriate clothing, cameras, water, adequate footwear, etc. The tour starts at 5:50 AM from the lodge to the beach, then you travel by boat for one hour to the Sirena station.
The walk lasts approximately 3 hours within the trails. A certified Guide offers accompanying information about the species that are found. The tour is organized as a group with a maximum of 8 people; At the end of the tour a lunch is provided before returning to the lodge.
Things to See
During the boat trip to the park, you will witness the entire coast line covered with forest and jungle. Upon arrival, your guide will begin looking for the four different species of monkeys, tapirs, snakes, birds, crocodiles, and a variety of flora.
Corcovado National Park
San Pedrillo
San Pedrillo offers a fantastic opportunity to discover Costa Rica’s primary forest. This station in Corcovado is closer to Drake Bay, making it easier for some guests, since the access to Corcovado is by boat. It is full of wildlife. We invite you to enjoy the thriving nature!
The lodge offers additional information and details in order to assist you with the tour-preparations, such as appropriate clothing, cameras, water, adequate footwear, etc. The tour starts early from the Lodge to the beach, then you travel by boat for minutes to San Pedrillo station.
If you want to refresh, you can enjoy a bath in a waterfall and the surrounding rivers.Â
Things to See
Like other stations in the Corcovado Park, there is the possibility of watching birds, monkeys, snakes, and other mammals and tree species.
Caño Island Tour
Snorkeling
The snorkeling tour at Caño Island is a highlight for many tourists. This activity takes place in the surrounding waters off the beautiful Isla del Cano. The waters offer visitors a wonderful opportunity to meet marine species of the area (Pacific Ocean), such as turtles, dolphins and colorful tropical fish. Do not be surprised if you see a shark as well.
Our operators provide lunch, equipment rental and transportation by boat (approx. 40 minutes) to reach Caño Island. As part of the activity, usually 2 snorkeling events of 40 minutes each are conducted before returning to the town to take lunch.
Caño Island Scuba
Scubadiving
Many people come to Drake Bay to dive the famous waters around Caño Island. Just as the land around Drake Bay are thriving with wildlife, so is the waters below. The tour takes place in different exclusive points (Boat-Ancla-Bajo del Diablo).
Necessary equipment is provided, the boat transportation is about 45 minutes, followed by two dive tours. The approximate depth is 18 meters (60 feet). For participants without a diving license, a Discovery-scuba can be arranged with a higher rate.
Divers are requires you to present your diving license.
Mangrove Tour
Rio Sierpe
The Mangrove tour is a unique experience, and can fulfil the naturalist’s desire to spot many different types of animals in one trip. It is an excellent option to see monkeys, sloths, mangrove boas, crocodiles, and many different bird species. The boat ride once inside the the river are smooth, allowing our guests to take advantage of the relaxing navigability of the Sierpe River‘s natural channels.Â
Its approximate duration of 4 hours includes lunch. 4 person minimum.
Whale and Dolphin Tour
Around the waters of Drake Bay
Drake Bay is a fantastic place to see many species of whales and dolphin. Whale-watching is a popular tour during the humpback whale’s migration season.Â
This activity takes place around Caño Island and other sectors towards the route to Corcovado. Please keep in mind that dolphin sightings can take place during much of the year, but the whales have specific seasons visiting our coasts.Â
The activity begins on the beach leaving at 8 am.Â
Humpback Whale Migration Seasons:
•Southern Hemisphere:  July 15-NovemberÂ
 Northern Hemisphere: 15-December 15 to May 15
Horseback Riding
Primary waterfall, forest and beach
This tour takes place around Drake Bay, following a route into the surrounding forest, rivers and beaches. On your tour you can observe birds, animals or the rain forest in the area. Comfortable clothing is recommended (appropriate footwear, long pants)
Bird Watching
Excellent variety
Drake Bay is known as one of the best in Costa Rica for bird watching (360 species Corcovado-Osa). There are many species of birds to see while visiting the area. Either on a tour of from our grounds. In addition, the certified experience of the guides of the area enhance the experience. They can show the visitosr all their knowledge to exalt all that beauty. (Red Macaw- toucans-euphonies-Woodpeckers and more)
